Day 6: Last random act of kindness – 31 Day March Blog Challenge

This is a very difficult one for me. I don’t see myself as a particularly kind person. I don’t try to be cruel or nasty, but I also don’t go out of my way to be kind. I use to give a lift to some people at the office, but when my first born started crèche I would be late in picking her up when I first dropped of other people. That meant I had to tell them I can’t give them a lift anymore and I still feel guilty every time I see them walking.

I don’t like to give money to beggars. That comes from the time that I was doing charity work in Hillbrow (a very run down area in Johannesburg), and I witnessed firsthand what they did with the money they received. Especially the kids. It was horrible to see them passed out, drugged from sniffing glue. Some of them under 10 years old. Even when we gave out food the rule was they had to eat the food in front of you otherwise they would sell the food to get money for glue.

But I’m not totally heartless like it might sound from the paragraphs above. Recently I saw on twitter that one of the other bloggers needed maternity clothing and I still had mine so I gave that to her. I always give all the outgrown children’s clothing to charity (our clothing as well); some of them are like new. We adopted both our dogs, and whenever I see people collecting money for animal causes I can’t help to give.

I’m also registered on the bone marrow database and I’m hoping to help someone with that some day. I would urge everyone to be on that database. Something so simple could make you save someone’s life.

Day 5: Favourite movies you never get sick of watching – 31 Day March Blog Challenge

There was a time in my life, during school and as a student where I use to go to the movies once or twice a week. Then after studying I use to go at least once a month, and still watch lots of movies on tv. Now, full time working, and 2 kids I just don’t seem to have any time for movies, although I still love it. Now if  there is a movie I really want to watch I record it and watch little bits of it whenever I get the chance.

There are a few movies that I’ve loved so much that I’ve bought the DVD’s.  Some I’ve watched many times, and some I wish I had the time to watch again. Strange enough I usually rewatch and love movies that make me cry. One of those is The Crow with Brandon Lee. I’ve probably seen it more than 10 times. The boyfriend (later fiancee) I had when this came out knew how much I loved the movie, and made me a mixed tape with songs from the movie as well as sound snippets from the movie. When I broke up with him I wrote him a letter and included a quote from the movie.

Just thinking about quotes from the movie gives me goosebumps:
“People once believed that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can’t rest.
Then sometimes, just sometimes, the crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right. “

“Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of all children.”

“It can’t rain all the time”

“If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them. Buildings burn, people die, but real love is forever. “
Then there is Love, Actually. I never saw it when it came out, and first time I saw it was on tv. But it was love at first sight. Immediately watched it again, and bought the DVD as well. Watched it many times, including the directors commentary, and once I was stuck at home with a very bad case of pink eye. I couldn’t open my eyes, so I listened to the whole movie. I’m always trying to think which ones are my favourite stories, but I love all of them. Daniel (Liam Neeson) with his wife that dies, and how he has to deal with his son. The funeral scene always gets the waterworks flowing. Jamie and the Portuguese maid is so sweet. David and Karen dealing with an affair. Sarah (I love Laura Linney) that chooses her brother over the very hot Karl. The Prime Minister and Natalie and Colin going to America always makes me laugh as well as Billy Mack. But if I had to choose a favourite scene it would have to be Mark professing his love for Juliet (Keira Knightley)
“But for now, let me say – Without hope or agenda – Just because it’s Christmas – And at Christmas you tell the truth – To me, you are perfect – And my wasted heart will love you – Until you look like this.

I saw a blogging challenge on Love, Harmony, Peace about a blogging challenge from Fabulous Finds by Tiffany and decided to join. Will still see if I’m actually going to do it, because I’m very good with starting something, but not with finishing it.
